01How do I apply for CJ Students accommodation?+
Click Apply Now (Register) on any page, select your residence, and complete the online application through our Tennancy platform. Returning residents use the Returning journey. Applications are quick, online and secure.
02What documents do I need to apply?+
We've outlined everything in the 'What You'll Need to Apply' section on this page — split into what you need to start your application and what you'll need later to confirm your placement and move in.
03Can I apply while waiting for NSFAS, bursary or university confirmation?+
Yes. Click Register to start your application and complete the process via Tennancy while your NSFAS, bursary or university placement is being finalised. Your application can proceed in parallel — just keep us updated as confirmations come through.
04Do you accept NSFAS students?+
NSFAS acceptance depends on the residence, institution and academic year. Each residence page shows its current NSFAS status. Where status is unconfirmed, contact CJ Students to verify before applying. We don't assume every residence is NSFAS-accredited.
05Do you accept bursary-funded students?+
Yes, where applicable — subject to the relevant residence, institution and bursary requirements. Confirm with CJ Students for your specific bursary.
06Can self-funded students apply?+
Yes, at applicable residences. Self-funded applicants follow the same Register journey via Tennancy.
07What room types are available?+
Room types vary by residence — including single rooms, shared rooms, bachelor apartments and one- or two-bedroom apartments. Visit the applicable residence page for the room type, sharing arrangement, inclusions and pricing.
08What is included in my room?+
Furniture and facilities differ by residence and room type. Rooms typically include a bed, study desk and chair, and storage — but check the specific residence page for exactly what's included.
09What is included in the rent / accommodation fee?+
What's included is property-specific. Some residences include Wi-Fi, water, electricity, laundry or transport in the fee; others don't. Check the residence page or confirm with CJ Students — we won't imply something is included everywhere if it only applies at certain sites.
10Are there deposits or additional charges?+
Yes, deposits and charges vary by residence. This can include a breakage deposit, administration charges and utility charges. All applicable fees are disclosed during the application process — confirm current amounts with CJ Students for your residence.
11Can I pay cash at the residence?+
No. CJ Students operates on a strict no-cash-on-site basis. Payments must only be made through approved channels communicated by CJ Students or Residence Management.
12How do I make payment?+
Through the approved property or CJ Students payment channels communicated to you — typically the admin office or your approved CJ Students account. Never pay cash on site.
13What payment reference must I use?+
Use the prescribed payment reference communicated by CJ Students or Residence Management so your payment can be correctly allocated.
14Can I have visitors?+
Yes, subject to the rules, approved visiting hours and access process of your specific residence. Check with your residence office for the current visitor policy.
15Can visitors sleep over?+
Only where your residence has an approved sleepover process. This is not a portfolio-wide right — confirm with your residence office.
16Am I responsible for my visitor?+
Yes. As the host student you're responsible for your visitor's conduct and any damage or rule breach that occurs during their visit.
17How do I report a maintenance issue?+
Through the approved residence system or support channel communicated by your property. Across the relevant portfolio, Tennancy is our platform — log issues there or via the channel your residence office has confirmed.
18How long will maintenance take?+
We don't publish fixed turnaround promises. Emergency and safety-related issues are prioritised. Your residence office will advise on expected timelines for non-urgent items.
19What security measures are available?+
Security measures vary by residence and only actual measures in place are listed — such as security personnel, CCTV, biometric / access control, visitor verification, controlled entrances and off-site monitoring. Check your residence page for its specific security features.
20Does CJ Students offer student activities and support?+
Yes. Student Life is built around community, wellbeing, academic support, personal development, sport, leadership, Future Leaders and career readiness. Explore Student Life for more.
21Where can I find rules specific to my residence?+
Visitor hours, sleepover process, alcohol policy, braai area, pool / recreation rules, transport, office hours, quiet hours and maintenance process can differ by building. These sit on each residence page rather than as one generic answer — and are based on the latest approved House Rules.
